Times Now Editor-in-Chief, Arnab Goswami, is set to receive special security cover from the central government in view of threats from Pakistan-based terrorist groups, reported Hindustan Times.

The paper reported that based on the threat perception analysis done by the Intelligence Bureau, the Home Ministry had decided to give Arnab Y-category security cover, in which 20 guards, including two personal security officers, will provide round-the-clock protection to the anchor.

“Goswami is being given security on the basis of a threat-perception analysis by the IB. We will go by the IB recommendation. He faces threats from Pakistan-based terrorist groups due to his comments against them on Times Now,” HT quoted an anonymous home ministry official as saying.

According to the report, Arnab joins a list of 450 protectees under four levels of special security cover given by the central government, out of which around 275 people receive protection based on an assessment of threat to their lives.

It also states that the home ministry is likely to ask the Maharashtra police to handle the security arrangements for Arnab, who is based out of Mumbai.

The news anchor is known for his hyperbolic style and strong pro-India and anti-Pakistan stands on air.
