There are still months to go for the release of the 2019 editions of the iPhone, but there are already rumours over Apple’s plans for the 2020 iPhones. That is primarily due to the interest in the 5G connectivity options on the iPhones. Apple had already made it known that it is not entering the 5G space in 2019. This is directly linked to the chipset issue and the feud the company had with Qualcomm. The latest rumours suggest that the iPhones to be released in 2020 will be capable of 5G connectivity. However, the rumour says only two out of the three devices will run on 5G and the third will be just an LTE phone.

This information has originated from well-known Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, who has been regular in the past too making predictions on what Apple could come up with. The other factor being predicted with regard to the 5G connectivity on the 2020 iPhones is that Apple will provide the sub-6GHz as well as the mmWave technology on them.

The 5G service that is being launched in the US is based on the millimetre wave technology. It is also suggested that the issue with Qualcomm stands resolved and the 5G phones from Apple will be fitted with the Qualcomm chipsets only, though Apple is working on its own chipset capable of 5G connectivity as well. Apple’s own “power amplifier and RF antenna designs” will be used for this it is learnt.

Kuo suggests that the top-end phone will have a 6.7-inch display, which is higher than the 6.5-inch seen on the iPhone XS Max. The iPhone XR is predicted to have a 6.1-inch display and will be the LTE model. It says all three will have OLED screens.

These are for the 2020 iPhones. As far as the 2019 iPhones are concerned, the XR model will continue to have the LCD display and only the other two will have the OLED display. In fact, there are reports indicating that the models to be launched in 2019 won’t see much changes from the previous versions. The only significant are will be the triple camera setup in the rear and the iPhone XR being elevated to a dual camera phone.
