The parents of the deceased B.Tech student of Anna University have alleged a foul play in her death and filed a complaint with Kotturpuram police on Monday. Another nursing student of Stanley Medical College allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room on Monday.
 
The B.Tech student, M Shanmuga Preetha had fallen from second floor of hostel and was initially suspected to be a suicide but her parent's have refused to believe this theory. 
 
A top official at Anna University told The New Indian Express that the initial enquiry has proven that the girl was not facing any personal problem. "So the chances of killing herself were minimal. We are extending full co-operation to the police who are investigationg the case," he said.
 
The girl's parents reached Chennnai on Monday morning. The girl's mother M Parvathy told TNIE, "My daughter spoke to me over the phone around 9:30 pm. She was sounding normal. An hour-and-a-half later, someone from the college calls us and tells that our daughter has suffered a fall and she is being taken to a hospital. There is no reason for us to believe that our daughter committed suicide."
 
Initial investigations have revealed that it is common practice for students to sit on the parapet. A police officer said that it can either be a suicide or an accident but no suicide notes have been found.
 
Another 19-year-old nursing student of Government Stanley Medical College committed suicide by hanging herself in her college hostel on Monday.
 
Amudha, the deceased had returned from her hometown in Villupuram district on Sunday and did not attend her classes on Monday. Later in the evening, she was found hanging in her room using her dupatta.
 
Police suspect that she committed suicide due to poor performance in studies.
