Banned outfit CPI (Maoist)’s Andhra-Odisha Border secretary Ramakrishna alias RK may have been ousted following the recent encounter in the Malkangiri forests where security forces claimed to have killed around 31 Maoists in an encounter.

According to a report in the Times of India, the mantle of the top Maoist leader has been passed on to Gajarla Ravi alias Uday.

The TOI report adds that the incident came to light after documents seized by the police from the Malkangiri encounter site.

Quoting the document, a police source told TOI, “Comrade S refers to Saketh alias RK. After extensive investigations and talks with Chhattisgarh and Odisha police, we found out there is no Naxal by the name Padma and concluded that it was a decoy name floated by the outlaws. After RK, the senior most leader in AOB is Gajarla Ravi alias Uday and we are sure he is the new AOB secretary.”

On October 24, an alleged exchange of fire between police forces and Maoists along the Andhra-Odisha border killed 24 people. In the week that followed, continuous combing operations raised the death toll to 31.

Top Maoist leader Ramakrishna alias RK, was missing initially after the incident.

However, writer and Maoist sympathiser Vara Vara Rao later claimed that he was safe.

The Andhra Pradesh Police has since also told the Hyderabad High Court that the police had to fire in self-defence.

They also told the court that there were around 40 cases registered against RK in various police stations across the state, and they were on the lookout for him.
