Amaravati farmers’ lands 'sold off' to Singapore firms: Kapu leader Mudragada plans stir

Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham who led the Kapu agitation demanding 15% reservation for his community, has planned for another protest—‘Singapore Go Back’ akin to the ‘Go Back Simon’ protest during the Pre-Independence period.

The Kapu leader called for observing June 7 as ‘Black Day’, because CM Chandrababu Naidu had allegedly sold off the land of the farmers in Amaravati to Singapore companies.

Reaching out to the opposition parties for a unified attack on the TDP against the Singapore companies owning the land, Mudragada wrote letters to all the parties including YSR Congress party, CPI, CPI(M) and Jana Sena Party.

He asked both the leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan to suspend their respective yatras and fight against the Singapore companies, until they were sent back.

He made an appeal to the opposition parties to convene a meeting and draw plans to fight the state government and the Singapore companies.

Mudragada alleged that the CM and his family had claimed the land in the capital region for themselves and gave its rights to Singapore.

The Deccan Chronicle quoted him as saying, “Our elders sent the British out of the country. A similar situation has arisen in AP as the Chief Minister allowed Singapore companies. We should send them out of the state.”

Mudragada had previously led a massive agitation in the state and demanded 15% reservation for the Kapus by including them in the Backward Caste list.

In a bid to please the Kapus, CM Naidu had yielded to their demands and granted 5% reservations by including them in the BC ‘F’ category in December last year. However, Mudragada was dissatisfied with the 5% reservation and had stated that he would begin a fresh agitation against the government in March.

He has been attacking Naidu time and again. Last month, he wrote an open letter to the CM and called him an ‘expert in lying’. Besides accusing Naidu of betraying the founder president of TDP, NT Rama Rao, he alleged that the TDP government was foisting false cases on the Kapu protestors.
