Amazon has launched a fourth variant of its home speaker based on the AI assistant Alexa in India. After Echo, Echo Plus and Echo Dot it is now Echo Spot. Observers feel Amazon is trying to take on Google’s range of home speakers, Google Home. The major differentiator in this home speaker is that it has a circular 2.5-inch display which will display images and videos along with the voice announcements.
If it is the day’s news headlines you are following, you can watch videos from major news channels also simultaneously. Similarly, movie trailers from Amazon Prime service can be viewed on this mini screen.
The questions and answers you engage with Alexa can be viewed on the screen as well. Amazon will integrate its shopping site with the Echo Spot so that Amazon Prime members can view products and prices and even reviews before placing their orders simply using their voice instructions as they would do with Alexa for other tasks.
What’s more, the users can even use the display screen to make video calls to other users of Alexa based devices, via the front facing camera on the Amazon Echo Spot device. One can send video messages on Alexa to Alexa communication as well.
Many of the features of the Echo series will be included in the Amazon Echo Spot too. These include the 4-microphones far-field technology that picks up your voice commands from distances. The speaker function is enhanced with the 3.5mm audio jack apart from the Bluetooth connectivity, that can be used for playing musing from external sources. Alexa can be asked to search for your favourite music and play it. This is also a multiple-use device that will turn into a clock or calendar or used to turn your rooms’ lights on or off.
Amazon has priced the Amazon Echo Spot for the Indian market at Rs 12,999. However, early birds can avail some inaugural offers and buy from Amazon online at Rs 10,499. This offer is being extended in a few offline retails outlets as well.
