Director Martin Prakkat’s Malayalam film Charlie went on to fetch positive reviews and this gave rise to expectations about its Tamil remake. It was announced that AL Vijay would direct the Tamil version. However, the filmmaker is currently busy trying to get the Jayam Ravi starrer Vanamagan to the silver screens and will then be concentrating on his upcoming film Karu.

Charlie, which opened to packed houses, had Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy playing the lead roles. The film will be remade in Tamil with Madhavan and Sai Pallavi in the star cast. AL Vijay, in an interview, said that the Charlie remake will be Sai Pallavi’s debut in Kollywood.

He was quoted in an interview as saying, “Right now, my focus is on my next ‘Karu’. ‘Charlie’remake will take some time and it’s not happening soon, Sai Pallavi is part of the project and it will be her Tamil debut film.”

Written and directed by Martin Prakkat, the film has been produced by Prakkat, Joju George and Shebin Becker under their banners Finding Cinema. A commercial success, Charlie also went on to win eight awards at the 46th Kerala State Film Awards, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Cinematography. Apart from Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy, the film also had Aparna Gopinath, Nedumudi Venu and Soubin Shahir in the star cast.

Gopi Sunder had scored music for this romantic drama that had cinematography by Jomon T John. Shameer Mohammed had edited the film.

Since director AL Vijay, known for making critically acclaimed films such as Madarasapattinam and Deiva Thirumagal, will be wielding the mega phone for the Charlie remake, fans are waiting eagerly to know if he would make changes to the script or adhere to the original one.
