On World Hunger Day, Foodpanda on Monday announced a partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to tackle hunger among children from the less privileged sections through the midday meal scheme across the country.

The target is to provide one million meals through this endeavour in the next six months.

Foodpanda customers who make use of the online marketplace for food delivery will donate raw material like pulses and spices to the foundation and thus contribute to the mission of eliminating hunger.

The raw material will go directly to the Akshaya Patra funds to be used to provide midday meals to over 14,000 partner schools in India.

The foundation implements the midday meal scheme in government and government-aided schools in the country.

The online platform will also be open for donations in the next couple of weeks.

"Being a food tech company, we have the capacity to reach a significant number of users digitally through our platform. Through partnerships like this, we intend to leverage the platform and support endeavours in the direction of hunger eradication in the country," Anshul Khandelwal, Head of Marketing, Foodpanda, said in a statement.

"We are confident that our users and our restaurant partners will wholeheartedly be a part of this initiative," Khandelwal added.

Foodpanda also aims to bring their restaurant partners onboard to actively contribute to the cause.

"This partnership provides a unique opportunity to engage millions of citizens in our endeavour to create a nourished and educated India and contribute to sustainable development goal of zero hunger," said Sundeep Talwar, Chief Marketing Officer, The Akshaya Patra Foundation.
