‘AIADMK government is unstable, doesn’t know what it’s doing’: Stalin hits out

Nearly a month after the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, DMK Working President MK Stalin hit out at the Edappadi Palaniswami-led government on Sunday, calling it ‘unstable’.

Speaking at a public meeting in his constituency, Kolathur, Stalin attacked the ruling AIADMK saying, “The party which is leading the government does not have any stability and does not know what they are doing.”

He also added that the people of the state were unhappy with the state government.

Stalin, however, appeared confident about the upcoming by-elections in RK Nagar constituency, which fell vacant following the demise of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. The DMK leader said his party would get good number in the polls.

While the DMK is yet to finalise its candidate for RK Nagar, Stalin had earlier said that the party would scrutinise candidates and arrive at a decision post March 13.

The Election Commission had earlier this week announced that by-polls to RK Nagar would be held on April 12.

The by-elections will see a multi-cornered contest, with Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar announcing her entry into politics with these polls. Former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam is also expected to announce a candidate for the polls. He had on Sunday stated that his faction’s candidate would contest on the AIADMK’s ‘two-leaves’ symbol.

The AIADMK might have a hard time retaining Jayalalithaa’s constituency in the aftermath of Sasikala and her family taking over key positions in the party. There have been reports about public discontent against Sasikala in RK Nagar, following Jayalalithaa’s death.

However, AIADMK Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran told the media on Friday, “Panneerselvam and some other traitors with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) are trying to break the AIADMK, but the AIADMK will increase its vote-percentage in the RK constituency.”
