The 2018 Assembly polls are nearing and the Karnataka Congress is finally catching up with the BJP and JD(S).

The saffron party and the JD(S) have already upped their game by deploying social media teams. In a bid to strengthen their campaign, the Congress will revive its social media wing once again.

Ever since its victory in 2013, the Congress’ social media wing has remained dormant The Congress, during the previous election campaign, has set up a ‘poll war room’ and is now planning to set up similar poll rooms, which will deal with social media campaigning.

According to a source with knowledge about the idea, Congress leaders VR Sudarshan and BL Shankar may be handed over the task of handling these ‘poll war rooms’ as soon as the party finds an idea spot for an office space.

This comes as a twist as just a month ago, media reports had suggested that actor-turned-politician, Ramya, would head the Congress’ social media team for the 2018 Assembly polls.

“Our social media team will be ready to begin its campaigns by the end of July. The plan is to put forth the achievements of the party during its tenure in order to counter the claims of the opposition,” the source added.

The new social media ‘poll war room’ will employ 20 tech savvy young minds to come up with innovative ideas for the campaign. The Congress is looking to employ techies, whose political ideologies are in sync with the Congress.

“Currently, the Karnataka Congress’ presence on social media is not enough to ensure that the party’s achievements are known to all the people, especially youngsters and social media is the best way to reach them,” the source said.
