As the ecommerce battle in India gets tougher, Flipkart is recruiting technical hands to fill the various positions. The typical profiles being indicated include data scientists, UI & UX designers, product solution engineers, tech program managers, software developers, IT infrastructure & service delivery and IT applications. This comes at a time when Flipkart seems to be preparing itself to compete on more even terms with giants like Amazon and is investing in AI related technologies across its operations.

The number of vacancies being filled in is expected to be around 700 if one goes by the reports quoting the HR Consultants who are said to be in the know. The significant fact is Flipkart is back into the recruitment game after a gap of 2 years, which saw the overall number of people being employed by the startup dropping steeply from around 15,000 to just 8,000.

“Flipkart is aggressively hiring in tech functions. Over 4/5th of all current open positions at Flipkart is for technology functions,” a company spokesperson told Economic Times.

If that exercise was seen as effecting cost-reduction measures, the current reversal is being attributed to the fresh infusion of $4 billion in 2017 and its reviewing the business policies and practices.

Flipkart is also back at some of the campuses for recruitment after having stayed away for 2 years. According to one recent report the ecommerce company has recruited 20 freshers from the Indian School of Business (ISB).

On the technology enhancement side, the company is said to have a designated ‘AI for India’ program which may see a strength of around 50 engineers working on various solutions based on AI that could result in better management of the storefront, the backend operations and customer engagement.

That Flipkart will invest heavily in technology had already been officially declared by them some time back.
