Ahead of the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday praised the state for being a leader in industrial development. Speaking to the reporters outside the Chennai Airport, the Minister said that people will vote for the leader of their choice, reported Puthiya Thalaimurai.

“Tamil Nadu’s industrial development is noteworthy. The floods definitely hindered the development of small scale industries. As far as my department is concerned, the Centre and State have been coordinating effectively,” said Nirmala Sitharaman, adding that work has been pending for the last three months due to election, and progress in them is possible only after the elections.

Earlier this month, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Venkaiah Naidu also refuted the statements of Minister of State for Power, Piyush Goyal and Union Minister of State for Environment, Prakash Javadekar, who called the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa “inaccessible.” Naidu said that he had recently met Jayalalithaa twice to discuss official issues.

Speaking on the sidelines of the CII Young India Meet in March at New Delhi, MoS for Power Piyush Goyal, openly criticized the Jayalalithaa government by calling it, “a state within a state, a part of the country where I cannot reach out to the Chief Minister.”
