Popular Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has parted ways with August Cinema, the production and distribution house he co-owned since 2011.

August Cinema was launched six years ago by actor Prithviraj, Shaji Nadesan, cinematographer and director Santosh Sivan and Tamil actor Arya.

Severing his ties with the production house that has produced some massive hits ever since its inception, Prithviraj announced the decision through his official Facebook page.

Although August Cinema has "continuously striven to facilitate deserving and aesthetic cinema," Prithviraj wrote that it was time he "traveled on a different tangent."

He wrote, "Today, I believe that it's time for me to start travelling on a different tangent, and on that journey, I might not always be able to be part of a partnership. So with great memories, heartfelt gratitude and some films that I will be proud of forever, I bid adieu to August Cinemas. I will always remain a well wisher of the company, and I have faith that the brand will continue to be associated with the kind of films I set out to make with this dream.

Wishing Shaji Nadesan, Santosh Sivan and Arya the very best in the journey ahead."

Apart from producing hit movies including Indian Rupee, Darvinte Parinamam and Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, August Cinema has also done distribution of films including Manjadikkuru, Molly Aunty Rocks, Bachelor Party, 5 Sundarikal, 7th Day, Bangalore Days and Iyobinte Pusthakam.
