Actor Siddharth slams Jack & Jones sexist ad featuring Ranveer Singh

Jack & Jones has subsequently decided to withdraw the ad.

Clothes brand Jack & Jones has been receiving flak on social media for a billboard featuring Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and a female model.

The ad shows Ranveer carrying a woman colleague on his shoulder with the "witty" line "Don't hold back, Take your work home." An approving elevator operator grinning in the background doesn't help matters.

The ad has been slammed for its misogyny and sexism by many, with Kollywood actor Siddharth tweeting about it on Sunday.

Calling it a "new low for women's rights in the workplace in India", the actor who has earlier spoken up against stalking in Tamil cinema, made his displeasure known.

After an IT professional Swathi was murdered in Chennai in June 2016 by an alleged stalker, the Tamil film industry had come under much criticism for its sexism and glorifying stalking. While most in the industry maintained a stoic silence, Siddharth was the first to acknowledge that movies do play a role in shaping conversations. He had openly condemned such plots in movies.

According to Livemint, the Jack & Jones ad was reported to the Advertising Standards Council of India.

Following the negative publicity, Jack & Jones has decided to withdraw the ad. The company tweeted this information to Siddharth on Tuesday.
