Even as many actors took to social media to express their horror and protest over the rape and brutal murder of Jisha in Perumbavoor a few days back, most limited to customary reactions that a public figure ought to make.

While Mother’s Day was celebrated with much enthusiasm on social media with users updating profile pictures with their mothers and showered praises on them, Actor Amala Paul took to Facebook to remember Jisha’s mother on the occasion.

“This Mother's Day, I want to apologize to Jisha's mother. I want to apologise for the horror and agony she has had to go through. Sorry for the world she has to live and a promise that we will fight to change our society,” Amala wrote on Facebook.

The actor, who has done numerous Tamil films such as ‘Deiva Thirumagal’ and ‘Mynaa’, has played lead roles in Malayalam films including ‘Oru Indian Pranayakadha’ and ‘Run Baby Run’.

She wrote that incarceration of one criminal would not transpire into justice for the numerous other rape victims, for he is not the only criminal in the society. Quoting the Delhi gang-rape case, she wrote:

“Did the hanging of the criminals of the Nirbhaya case stop this poor girl from being brutally murdered? Does it stop hooligans from eyeing me every day when I go to jog, regardless of having a driver who follows me everywhere? I still feel unsafe. The stares and glares are mean and hurtful... I strongly think that in my country a girl or a woman is never all safe even when she is with a man.”

In her post on Sunday, she also appealed to the women to be fearless and strong, and also to fathers to bring up their daughters by teaching them to stand up for themselves, and not to conceal their bodies and minds.
