Across India’s metros the dosa is king of the breakfast table, finds Swiggy survey
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and across India’s largest cities, there’s an endless panoply of dishes on offer. But it seems that the crispy-on-the-outside-and-fluffy-on-the-inside dosa is fast turning into the breakfast of choice.
According to a survey by food delivery app Swiggy, the humble dosa ranks among the most popular breakfast dishes in India across Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi/Gurugram, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune.

For the survey, Swiggy analyzed ordering patterns from over 12,000 restaurants in the eight cities on its platform.
The survey also found that Indians still prefer traditional breakfast dishes such as idli, poha, paratha and dosa, over western alternatives.
This remains the case despite attempts by large chains such as McDonald's to expand on their breakfast range in the country.
