Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan lashed out at the media after The Indian Express quoted him as saying that people want him to be the Chief Minister of Kerala. He alleged that his statements to the daily in an interview were distorted.

To the question, What will your role be after the elections? You are a popular choice for the CM’s post- Achuthananthan responded: “Yes, people want me to become the chief minister. But everything has to be decided by the party leadership and the LDF.”

After Achuthananthan’s allegations emerged, The Indian Express put out the audio clip of his interview. In the 9 minute 4 seconds long clip in Malayalam, Achuthananthan is heard saying that though it is true that people wish him to be the CM, it is the party that has to take a decision. He further adds, “You will not get my opinion regarding this”.
