A 24-year-old woman from Bengaluru has filed a police complaint against her husband for blackmailing her and marital rape.

According to reports, the woman had married Shivam*, a resident of Chamrajpet in April 2016. The harassment began right on the night of the wedding day, the woman alleges in her complaint to the  Basavanagudi police.

According to her complaint, they spent the first night at a hotel in Yelahanka, when Shivam was in an inebriated state and he subsequently forced her to consume alcohol. Following this, Shivam reportedly forced her into sex.

Shivam would often blackmail her and force her into sex, say reports.

The woman has also complained that Shivam would often show her pornograhic content and demand that she emulate them. When she refused, Sheyas would threaten her saying that he would post her nude videos and photographs on social media.

In her complaint, the woman has also raised harassment for dowry allegation by Shivam's family. Her in-laws used to harass her and demand she bring dowry, say reports.

The woman has also alleged that Shivam was impotent. When she threatened to go to police against the harassment meted out to her at the home, Shivam's parents reportedly assured her that Shivam would be treated in six months. However, Deccan Herald reports that the woman was sent out of the house on June 28. It was following this, that she proceeded to file a police complaint. The police have reportedly registered a case under the Dowry Prohibition Act and under sections 506, 34 and 498(A) of the IPC.

Although marital rape is not a criminal offence under IPC section 376, the sexual violence could be seen as cruelty under section 498A by the court.
