In yet another shocking assault on elderly women in Kerala, a 63-year-old woman was allegedly raped by three men at Pathanapuram in Kollam district in the wee hours of Sunday.

The incident came to light on Monday, after the victim complained to the police.

The woman has been admitted to the Adoor General Hospital.

“I heard a dog barking, and when the door opened, a person entered the house. He said that he would kidnap me. Soon, two others also came in. They took away the torchlight from me and covered my face and eyes with a saree. They also tied my hands and said that I should obey them,” the woman told Asianet News.

The woman’s face and body have injury marks, indicating that she was assaulted brutally.

Police have not yet confirmed rape, but have said that the woman was brutally assaulted.

The police also said that they are in search of three men based on the information provided by the victim.

This is not the first case of an elderly woman being assaulted in the state in recent times.

In April 2017, a 70-year-old widow committed suicide and her postmortem report revealed that she was sexually assaulted before her death at Iritty in Kannur district.  A distant relative of the victim was arrested later.

In the same month, a 26-year-old man was arrested for attempting to sexually assault a 79-year-old woman at Mannanchery in Alappuzha. The woman was admitted to hospital with severe injuries.

In March 2017, a 90-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Alappuzha district. The woman, who was living with her daughter, was assaulted when her daughter was away.
