After all the talk and hype built up around 5G, the Mobile World Congress 2019 has been seeing real devices being unveiled one after another and you might be curious to know who’s doing what. Here’s a lowdown on the 5G phones that have been demonstrated so far at the MWC.

Samsung Galaxy Fold

Yes, the name is the Samsung Galaxy Fold and it should actually figure among the foldable phone category. And for the record, the South Korean giant has launched another 5G phone in its regular S series as well, the Samsung Galaxy S10 (5G).

The foldable phone, as predicted has a main 7.3-inch 1536×2152pixles Super AMOLED display when fully opened and when folded, the cover has a 4.6-inch display for seeing the notifications and messages. Rest of the specifications, like the Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon 855SoC processor, 12GB RAM and 512GB storage along with the 4380mAh battery offer no surprises from the rumors circulating earlier.

This phone would be priced at a steep $1980 and will be out in the market in the last week of April, 2019.

Samsung Galaxy S10 (5G)

The Samsung Galaxy S10 (5G) has a 6.7-inch 1440×3040pixels AMOLED display. The processor is the same as the foldable model and the RAM is 8GB with 256GB storage. The battery is 4500mAh. The price of this device is yet to be made known.

LG V50 ThinQ 5G

The processor on this 5G phone from LG too, is the same 855SoC from Qualcomm, possibly the only chipset now in the market capable of processing the speeds needed in 5G. The RAM is 6GB and the storage 128GB. Other details like price etc. are yet to be disclosed. This too, turns into a foldable model. And there is a unique feature added to this of a Hand ID using the identification of veins in your hands to authenticate the ID.

Huawei Mate X

This is another 5G phone that is foldable like the Samsung model. There are three screens in all in this device, with the full unfolded screen having a size of 8 inches and the screen resolution 2200x2480pixels. There is a secondary 6.6-inch display that boasts of a 2480x1148pixels screen resolution. Huawei has used its own Kirin 980 processor on this phone. One will have to wait to see if measure up to the levels a Qualcomm chipset could do. As for the other specs, the RAM is 8GB, the internal storage 512GB and the battery 4500mAh. The price is being indicated as $2600.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3

World’s fastest growing smartphone brand Xiaomi too, isn’t behind. It has launched a model with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855SoC processor as well. This model is called the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and is priced at just a fourth of the price of the foldable 5G phone above, at $680. It has 6GB RAM, 64GB and 128GB variants of storage and 3800mAh battery.  

ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G

ZTE too, unveiled the ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G, its first 5G smartphone, which will also be powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6GB RAM and comes with 128GB of internal storage. The Axon 10 Pro comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and a triple camera set up. While ZTE doesn’t usually launch its phones in India, it will be interesting to see if this 5G variant makes it to the country.

OnePlus 5G prototype

While Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus didn’t officially unveil or launch a 5G device, it displayed its first 5G prototype smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile. Displayed at Qualcomm’s 5G demo station, visitors at MWC19 were able to get a sneak peek at OnePlus’ 5G prototype and get a taste of 5G cloud gaming. However, these devices have been sealed within a protective case for confidentiality since the they haven’t officially made their debut yet.
