37 Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan navy

The Sri Lankan navy has picked up 37 Indian fishermen for allegedly poaching in its waters on Friday evening .
The arrests came just a day after Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said that he had issued instructions to capture all boats that crossed the country’s international waters
The arrested fishermen and five boats that were seized have been taken to Kankesanturai port according to the Sri Lankan Naval spokesman Commander Indika Silva, reported PTI.Â
According to New Indian Express, the fishermen had been at sea at about 40 nautical miles south-east of Nagapattinam when the Lankan navy apprehended them .Â
The arrests are the first after the end of the third series of talks between heads of fishermen associations of India and Sri Lanka.
