In an incident that reminds one of Chennai techie Subhasri’s death, a 29-year-old man in Kerala was seriously injured on Tuesday evening after a hoarding put up on the side of the road fell on him. The hoarding was an advertisement of a private firm.

Vezhambaseril Shibin Sebastian, a resident of Upputhode, was travelling on his scooter on the Karimban-Murikaser road in Cheruthoni in Kerala’s Idukki district when the hoarding fell on him. Shibin lost control of his two-wheeler and fell onto the road head first. It is not yet known whether Shibin was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Shibin suffered a serious head injury as a result of his fall. Immediately after he fell, auto drivers and other passers-by, rushed him to Idukki medical college where he underwent a small surgery. “The health condition of the youth is stable and a scan has also been taken of his head. After he recovers, we will record his statement,” the police told TNM.

Shibin is employed at a private firm in Ernakulam. “Presently, we have not received a complaint from the family. If a complaint is filed, we will register a case,” Idukki police said.

Many illegal hoardings have been seen along the roads in various parts of Idukki district. Most of the hoardings have been put up along the turns of the high range roads.

This incident comes two months after an illegal hoarding claimed the life of 23-year-old techie Subhasri Ravi. On September 12, a Chennai resident killed when an illegal hoarding put up on the road side fell on her, causing her to lose balance and come under a truck who was approaching from behind her.

In connection with Subhasri’s death, the police had arrested AIADMK leader who was responsible for the illegal installation of the hoarding that fell on the woman. Subhasri’s death had led to massive outrage in Tamil Nadu, with it snowballing into a political fight as well. The Madras High Court too seriously criticised the government for not following its guidelines on illegal hoardings and ordered the government to pay compensation to Subhasri’s family.
