A flood alert has been issued in East Godavari district after water levels rose on Tuesday. The Godavari river is in full spate with water levels rising to the danger levels in Devapatnam, Posama Gandi , SCpet, and  Kondamedalu. 

According to reports, 28 villages have been cut off with district officials making arrangements to evacuate those affected. Revenue officials say although some villagers are reluctant to evacuate, they are ready to use police force.

Arun Kumar, East Godavari district collector told TNM, ''At Bhadrachalam second level warnings have been issued and at Dowleswaram Barrage first warning has been issued in the morning. We have already alerted these Lanka Villages (Island Villages) and there is a possibility of flooding in few Lanka Villages but so far no evacuation has been started but all the arrangements have been made.”

He said the situation is under control.

Water levels in the Godavari river have risen to 52 feet as of 12pm on Tuesday. Water levels have been rising following incessant rains in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

500 acres of crop have reportedly been damaged in the rain

Indian Meteorological Department had forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh till Wednesday.

In Telangana, the districts of Adiabaad, Nizamabad, Khammam, Bhadrachalam and Warangal are expected to receive heavy rainfall. In coastal Andhra Pradesh, five districts of Vishakapatnam, Vijayanagaram, West Godavari, East Godavari, and Srikakulam will receive heavy rainfall. 

Fisherman have been advised not to venture into the sea.
