In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old student from Telangana drowned to death in Florida while on an outing with his friends on Easter Sunday. Shravan Kumar Reddy, hailing from the coal town of Bellampalli in Mancherial district, passed away on April 21 at after he drowned reportedly while snorkelling at the Destin beach in Florida where he had gone out with his friends.

Shravan went missing at around 6:30 pm on Sunday and his friends immediately informed the authorities. The body was fished out only on Monday and is expected to reach Telangana in the next five days.

According to media reports, Shravan had left for the US after completing his graduation in 2014. He was pursuing his MBA there and was planning to open a hotel business along with his brother after completing his studies. He completed his masters in IT in the US and was doing his second masters in Kentucky.

The general administration department of the Telangana government is making efforts to bring the body back to Telangana. Speaking to a media outlet on Tuesday, Kranthi, Shravan’s brother, said friends and relatives in the US were making efforts to fly the body back to their hometown and they been informed by the state that it would take around 4-5 days for the it to reach India.

Shravan is the youngest of the four children of Reddy Rajaram and Malathi. 

This is not the first death of a Telangana native to be reported from the US this year.

In February this year, a man from Telangana was shot dead by unidentified persons in the state of Florida in the United States of America. 50-year-old K Goverdhan Reddy, who hailed from Yadadri Bhongir district, was killed when unknown assailants opened fire at a departmental store where he was working as a manager.

Reddy had gone to the US seven years ago and was survived by wife, and two daughters who study in Class 10 and Class 7.
