Two people were killed in Hyderabad on Monday evening as heavy rains accompanied with lightning and thunder lashed several parts of the city.

55-year-old Chandraiah, a toddy tapper, was crushed to death after the tree he was climbing was uprooted, and fell down. The incident also injured another person who was standing nearby. In a second incident which took place at B K Guda near Vishwabharati High School, 18-year-old K Shivaji died on the spot after his umbrella touched an electric pole, causing him to be electrocuted.

Pre-monsoon showers in many parts of Telangana on Monday provided some respite to people from the sweltering heat. Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds drenched Hyderabad and several parts of Telangana, providing relief to people reeling under heat wave conditions for last one month.

Dark clouds in Hyderabad turned the weather pleasant in late afternoon and towards evening, it rained heavily in the city and outskirts, bringing down the temperature.

Several trees were also uprooted due to rainfall and gusty winds. The iconic arc of Moula Ali suffered damages as a part of the arc's upper portion collapsed unable to withstand the heavy wind.

As a result of the rainfall, traffic jams were witnessed in several junctions like Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Somajiguda and Begumpet, among others.

Power outages were also reported in several places. The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) said that it had taken note and was working swiftly to restore normalcy.

Despite the rain, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heat wave for the next four days in Telangana. The department said that heat wave is likely to prevail in pockets of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagitial, Rajanna-Sircilla, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Warangal and several other areas.
