In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old intermediate student who was on his way to appear for his board examination was mowed down by a speeding bus of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) near Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills check post on Tuesday.

The student was identified as Subhan and the police said that his friend, who was travelling with him on a two-wheeler, also sustained injuries in the accident. Both of them were pursuing their Intermediate at a junior college in Somajiguda and were reported to be travelling for their last exam of the academic year.

“The students had an examination centre at a college in Madhapur at 9 am. They were on the way to Madhapur via the Jubilee Hills check-post. Meanwhile, an RTC bus (AP 11 Z 6680) was heading towards Allwyn Colony from Secunderabad. As the signal turned green, both the vehicles moved ahead and the front right tyre of the bus touched the bike from its left," Jubilee Hills sub-inspector E Shankar was quoted as saying.

The rider then lost control of his bike and the duo fell down, following which Subhan, who was riding pillion, came under the rear tyres of the bus and died on the spot, the police said, adding that the rider was not wearing a helmet either.

The entire incident was caught on CCTV footage and a case was registered at the Jubilee Hills police station and the driver was taken into custody. The minor who was riding the bike is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

This is the second such incident this month as last week, a 17-year-old intermediate student who was staying at Chowdhanriguda, was on the way to her house after appearing for an exam, when a speeding tractor hit her from behind at Shadnagar. The police said that she succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
