It has come to light that 150 students from the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) have qualified for a medical or dental college seat after attaining good marks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam. The results of NEET were released on Wednesday and saw a pass rate of 67.44% in the state of Telangana. While a hundred of these students were from the social welfare residential institute the remaining 50 were from a tribal welfare institute.

Of these students, six from the tribal welfare institute and three from social welfare secured All India Ranks. Avath Rajesh, K Chinna, Kethavath Vishnu, Bhanoth Chandulal, Banoth Ravi Kumar, and Ramavath Sneha Latha are the students from tribal welfare institutes to have secured an All India rank. Students from social welfare institutes to have received an All India rank are Kovvuri Rasagna, M Anvesh, and K Raj Kumar.

“I would have dropped out from college and would have ended up as a victim of early child marriage, if not for the vision of the Chief Minister to put the poor SC and ST students into the orbit of higher education. My aim is to become a cardiologist and serve poor people in rural areas,” said Ramavath Sneha Latha, a student from the tribal welfare IIT Study Centre, Rajendra Nagar.

The students have all qualified for a seat in a medical or dental college, which will be determined based on the counselling process.

Dr RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSWREIS and TTWREIS congratulated all the students on their performance, calling it a ‘golden lettered moment’ in the history of the institutes.

Out of 48,996 students from Telangana who wrote the NEET, 33,044 have qualified. Madhuri Reddy G from the state secured an All India rank of 7 after having scored 695 out of 720 marks.

The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) has been running over 200 educational institutes in the state under the Ministry of Scheduled Caste Development. It works to provide children from marginalised backgrounds with a good education.
