The multiple-award winning Marathi film "Court", directed by Chaitanya Tamhane, has released all over India, except in Bengaluru. The reason reportedly could be the border tension that prevails between Maharashtra and Karnataka. Though the film maker and the distributor of the film have reportedly been in talks with officials in the city, not much seems to have come out of it. According to a report by Bangalore Mirror, Shiladitya Bora, the distributor of the film said that he spoke to several exhibitors in the city, but has only got vague responses so far. Bora told the newspaper, "Apparently, it is a bigger political issue. None of them wants to take a chance. We had heard such rumblings from Marathi film-makers who have previously tried to release their films in Karnataka. But what we didn't realise was that it was so serious. Especially since the film has won a national award and has got international recognition, we had no doubts that it would release, sooner or later. We hadn't expected so much of a religious bias." Bora claims that he has also been told by an exhibitor that since the subject of the film is "sensitive", they "fear anti-social elements who have damaged the multiplex earlier" and that they do not want to get involved since it is a Marathi film. The film had however been screened in Belgaum for a week, adds the report. According to a report in The Hindu, exhibitors in the city have said that they delay in the release of "Court" in Bengaluru had nothing to do with any political issue and that some had a slot problem. The story of "Court" revolves around an ageing folk singer who is being tried in court on charges of abetment of suicide of a sewarage worker. The singer is accused of performing an inflammatory song which might have incited the worker to end his own life. The film focuses on the lives of the lawyers and judges working on the case. The film has won 17 awards including the National Award for Best Feature Film and has been screened in various film festivals across the world. The film released in the rest of the country on April 17. Video of 4sc8z7zav9A
