Rana Daggubati is one lucky actor to have had two blockbusters in the first half of 2017. While The Ghazi Attack went on to become a hit, his Baahubali: The Conclusion has smashed all box office records.

A few days ago, reports surfaced that Rana Daggubati might be playing the lead role in a film that will be about the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination. Reports suggest that he will be seen as the Special Investigation Team’s head DR Karthikeyan who headed the investigation. And now the buzz is that Rana met the retired CBI officer at a 5-star hotel recently which fuelled the news that the film is taking a concrete shape. Interestingly, he was accompanied by his uncle and leading actor in Tollywood Venkatesh when the meeting with DR Karthikeyan happened. This has given rise to speculations that Venkatesh may also be a part of the project but that has not been confirmed yet. AMR Ramesh will be directing the film and Ravi Kale has been roped in to play an important role in this political thriller.

For a brief understanding of this project, it may be recalled that the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, was assassinated by a human bomb while he was on an election campaign in Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991.

Director AMR Ramesh is known for making films out of controversial subjects. His Cyanide / Kuppi is based on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue and the LTTE while Attahasa / Vana Yuddham is about the life of the late forest brigand Veerappan. His film Game / Oru Melliya Kodu is touted to be the unofficial remake of the Spanish film El Cuerpo. The film starred Arjun, Shaam, Manisha Koirala and Aqsa Bhatt in the lead roles.
