Two persons were arrested in Mangaluru for allegedly robbing a service revolver from a head constable in Bengaluru north a month ago, a top police official said on Thursday.

"Accused Dhanush, 19, and Vijay, 21, from Surathkal in Dakshina Kannada district were arrested under Section 379 of the IPC after they admitted to robbing a revolver from Head Constable Narasimha Murthy in Yelahanka suburb on February 23," Bengaluru Police Commissioner Praveen Sood told reporters.

Surathkal is 12 km from Mangaluru and 340 km from Bengaluru on the west coast.

"The duo stole the revolver and Rs 6,500 in cash from Murthy, who was lying unconscious on a road in the city's northern suburb after attending to nature's call. They confessed during interrogation to not knowing that Murthy was a policeman as he was in plainclothes then," Sood said.

Murthy was posted as a gunman to Janata Dal-Secular lawmaker P Muniswamappa at Devanahalli near Yelahanka on the city's outskirts since the past three years.

Police also recovered 16 mobile phones from the duo who came to Bengaluru from Surathkal and stayed in a lodge at Yeshwanthpur in the city's north suburb.

"Investigation revealed that the accused, habitual thieves in Mangaluru, came to Bengaluru on a motorbike with an intention to rob people in and around the city," added Sood.
