TNCC President EVKS Elangovan has reportedly resigned from his position as party chief.

According to media reports, the Congress leader took moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and hence resigned from his post on Saturday.

The New Indian Express reported that TNCC spokesperson Gopanna had confirmed that while in Delhi on June 15, Elangovan had submitted his resignation letter to the AICC Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

However, it is as yet unclear if the Congress high command has accepted his resignation. If the resignation is accepted, a new TNCC chief will be chosen once Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi returns from his current foreign tour, TNIE reported.

Discontent had apparently brewing against Elangovan for ignoring those loyal to former union minister and senior leader P Chidambaram.

Reportedly, several senior leaders, including former state presidents, had expressed grievances to the AICC Chairperson, alleging that Elangovan was ignoring local leaders to the detriment of the party.
