A cake made in 2013 has come back to haunt 10 people, including the former District Collector of Coimbatore Archana Patnaik and Deputy Commissioner Parvesh Kumar.
A Coimbatore court has asked the police to file an FIR about a case filed in 2014, regarding a cake resembling the Indian flag, which was cut at an event to promote communal harmony. The event had taken place on Christmas Day 2013, and the then District Collector and Deputy Commissioner, and Hindu, Muslim and Christian community leaders.
The Chief Magistrate’s court was hearing a case filed by petitioner Senthil Kumar, a member of the Hindu Makkal Katchi outfit.
In his petition, Kumar said the cutting of the cake resembling the flag was an insult to the nation according to the Prevention of Insults to the National Honour Act, 1971.
Kumar said that he only approached the court after the police refused to register a complaint even after he showed them newspaper reports.
He also petitioned to the then Commissioner of Police, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Chief Minister, but did not get any replies.
While Archana Patnaik was posted as a Director of Horticulture and Plantation Crops in July 2016, Pravesh Kumar was transferred to the post of DC, Kilpauk in May 2015.
