In a shocking incident, a daily wager and his wife allegedly tried to sell their four-day-old baby in Hyderabad's Saidabad area.

The Times of India reported that Krishna, a hotel worker from Singareni Colony in Saidabad and his wife Sujata, a daily wager, have two daughters.

Four days ago, Sujata gave birth to her third child, a baby girl.

The report adds that the Sujata told her relatives that her family members had decided to sell the baby girl in Nalgonda's Devarakonda area for Rs 20,000 due to poverty.

However, the accused escaped when locals gathered at the spot of the sale.

The police are yet to register a case.

This comes days after a 15-day-old girl was rescued in Telangana's Nalgonda district after she was allegedly sold for Rs 10,000 to a childless couple.

Last year, NDTV revealed the extensive baby trade in the state's backward district, after it took the channel less than half a day to be offered an abandoned baby from a government-run home if they were willing to pay some money.

The Hindustan Times reported that the main reason for this could be ‘cumbersome laws’, as it can take as long as four years to legally adopt a child.
