Bengalureans' wait for a fully functional Phase 1 metro is soon going to be a reality. The last leg of Phase 1 metro will be inaugurated on June 17, Vasanth Rao, PRO Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) confirmed to TNM. 

The last leg of Green Line that stretches 10.5 km connecting Sampige Road and Yelachenahalli Metro stations, will be open to the public from the following day. 

A confirmation letter from the CM's office says that President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the Green Line between 6 pm and 7 pm on June 17. The North-South corridor is named Green Line. Interestingly, Phase 1 of Bengaluru metro will be fully functional on the same day Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Kochi Metro Rail. 

Lalitha S reports for The New Indian Express that Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) K A Manoharan gave the final authorisation letter on Wednesday evening. The letter was then handed over to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) on Thursday. According to the report, the minor pending works at the new stations will be wrapped up by June 10. 

With the inauguration of the Green Line, the 42.30 km Phase 1 project will attain completion. As per BMRCL website, the last leg of the Green Line covers stations including Chickpete, Krishna Rajendra Market, National College, Lalbagh, South End Circle, Jayanagar, Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road, Banashankari, Jaya Prakash Nagar and Puttenahalli. 

According to The Hindu, the journey that connects Nagasandra in north Bengaluru with Yelachanahalli in the south is expected to take 45 minutes. 

The Purple Line that connects Baiyappanahalli in the east to Mysuru Road in the west became functional in April last year.
