Tennis sensation and World No 1 Serena William is 20 weeks pregnant, and that means when she won her last grand slam tournament - the Australian Open at the end of January - she was already pregnant.

The news was confirmed by Serena’s PR representative over email to the media. CNN reported the spokesperson saying that Serena and her fiancé, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian are expecting their first child.

According to CNN, the couple had announced their engagement last December, which came as a surprise to her fans.

“I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall," multiple media outlets quoted the spokesperson as saying.

According to ESPN, Williams (35) had posted a picture of herself wearing a yellow swimsuit with a caption reading “20 weeks” on Wednesday, which she later deleted. Apart from that there has been no statement on the same by the tennis star herself.

The sports website further reported that Williams has not played any professional tennis following her Australian Open triumph. She had also skipped two Women’s Tennis Association tournaments at Indian Wells and Miami purportedly over a knee problem.

Arguably one of the most successful Tennis player of all times, Serena has a record number of grand slams in the open era with a total tally of 23 titles.

Guardian reported that the tennis star has not officially given a statement yet if she will play in the Madrid Open (to be played in the next month).

“We have not been informed, nor do we have confirmation. We will let you know once we have further information,” a tour spokesperson told the Guardian.
