Missing out on a dream debut with Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai, hasn’t cost Sai Pallavi much as she’s gearing up to enter Tamil filmdom with the remake of hit Malayalam film Charlie, with Madhavan in the lead.

The original, directed by Martin Prakkat, was one of the highly acclaimed films of 2015 and it featured Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy in the lead. Vijay, most popular for helming Madrasapattinam and Devi, will direct the remake and the project is slated to go on the floors soon.

Talking to Deccan Chronicle, the film’s co-producer Shruti Nallapa said the film is not a verbatim remake of Charlie. “Though we have acquired the remake rights of Charlie, it is not a verbatim remake in Tamil. Vijay has made many changes and has improvised it to suit Tamil nativity, retaining the essence of the original. We have experimented by changing the script. So, it is more like an adaptation of Charlie,” she said.

She also said Madhavan’s versatile image will go a long way in determining the course of the film. The story will be set in Ooty and Puducherry, and Leon James has been roped in to compose music while Nirav Shah will crank the camera.
