The RSS office in Koothuparamba municipality, Kannur was allegedly attacked by CPI (M) workers who hurled two steel bombs at it on Tuesday evening. RSS workers also alleged that the miscreants then proceeded to vandalise a Sree Narayana Guru temple nearby.

Following the incident, Sangh Parivar organisations called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Koothuparamba on Wednesday to protest against the attack.

According to a complaint filed by RSS leaders at the Koothuparamba Police Station, CPI (M) workers first hurled two steel bombs at the RSS office. In the incident, the office veranda was destroyed. CPI (M) workers then proceeded to vandalise the office.

The complaint also stated that the two RSS members who were in the office at the time of the attack had to flee through the back door.

RSS leaders also informed the Koothuparamba police that the Sree Narayana Guru temple nearby was also attacked in the incident. The CPI (M) workers allegedly broke open the main door of the temple and vandalised a portrait of Sree Narayana Guru. The mob also allegedly destroyed the portraits of gods hung on the wall and later fled in a car that was parked at a distance.

The incident is being investigated by Thalassery DYSP Prince Abraham along with other police officers from the region. He said, “Yes, we have received a complaint about the incident and we are investigating. We have registered a case and will nab the accused soon.”

The SHO Koothuparamba said, “A case has been registered against all the accused under the Explosive Substances Act.”

The police are camping at the site.

Protesting against the incident, Sangh Parivar and RSS workers have declared a strike in Koothuparamba municipality from 6 am to 6 pm Wednesday. The organisations have stated that vehicles are excluded from the strike.
