There has been much speculation in the media about the man arrested for the murder and rape of 32-year-old Jisha on April 28 in Perumbavoor. A remand report submitted by the police in the Perumbavoor judicial magistrate court provides some clarity and an insight into the cruelty that the suspect Amir-ul-Islam inflicted on Jisha.
We are quoting the police version verbatim from the remand report in Malayalam.
“During the investigation, the DNA test done on the saliva from a bite mark on Jisha proved that the sample was that of a male’s. It matched with the DNA sample taken from the edge of the bed which was near the door.
A man called Jamaal who was living with Amirul Islam identified the slipper as one that was used by Amirul Islam. He also said that Amirul Islam had fled Perumbavoor on the night of April 28 and that he had taken a train from Aluva."
The police report then describes how the suspect was tracked using his mobile phone signal and was taken into custody on 16th from Kancheepuram.
“On April 28, Ameerul Islam who had realized that Jisha was alone at home, and waiting for her mother at the porch of the house barged into Jisha’s house with an intention to sexually assault her. Jisha resisted his attempts to forcefully coerce her to his intentions. Pre-decided that he had to subjugate her no matter what, he covered her nose and mouth, pushed her to the ground and forced himself on her."
The police mention that his violence had stemmed from his vengefulness towards her, though there is no mention in the remand report on why Ameerul Islam wanted to take revenge on Jisha. (This is howeber just a remand reort and only the chargesheet will have more details).
It goes on to describe how the man with prior intention to kill, maim and rape her, repeatedly stabbed Jisha with a knife. When she fought back, 'he mutilated her genitals almost to the extent of taking her internal organs out', says the report.
A police officer who is part of the investigation told The News Minute that section 376a of the CrPc has been added to the FIR as the physical assault had reduced Jisha to a vegetative state, and the sexual assault followed even after this.
Police have also told the court that the man has confessed to his crime.
The report adds that a close relative of the man staying in Perumbavoor and his wife who lives in Bengal too have been intimated about his arrest.
