Anyone who has been to Kolkata around Pujo will know just how the city lights up to welcome goddess Durga.

This time is no different. On the occasion of Mahalaya, over 400 people got together on Tuesday to create a kilometre-long ‘alpana’ or Bengali floor art on Lake Road in the south Kolkata. Mahalaya is touted to be the day which marks goddess Durga’s journey to Earth.

The alpana, which is being called one of the longest in the country, was a corporate initiative. It also saw actors Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Prosenjit Chatterjee participate in painting the floor art.

A number of people shared photos and videos of the alpana on social media, professing their awe and love for the city. See them here.
