In a shocking case, a man who was out on bail in Vishakapatnam allegedly raped a minor girl - the daughter of daily wage labourers - on Wednesday.

Ganesh alias Draaksha (29) of Chukkapally village of  Chirikonda mandal, an under-trial, reportedly in an attempt to murder case, has been out on bail for two months. Ever since he got out of jail, Ganesh has been driving an autorickshaw.

For a few weeks now, Ganesh has been observing 11-year-old Sumitra*, and on June 14, around 6pm, he abducted the minor from a playground in her neighbourhood, the police say.

He then took her an isolated place and allegedly sexually assaulted her. Later, Ganesh dropped Sumitra at her house, and threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone.

Sumitra though decided to tell her family, who then went to the New Port police at 9.30pm the same day to file a complaint.

Following the complaint police have filed a case under IPC Section 376, POCSO and the Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST Act.

Police have nabbed the accused and sent to him to remand on Friday. The police also said that they were yet to receive the medical reports in the case.

According to Nageshwar  Rao, Circle inspector of New Port police station, the accused has 18 robbery cases and one attempt to murder case against him in Gajuvaka police station.

Nageshwar Rao told TNM, “Ganesh has committed two robberies, along with this sexual offence in the two months after his release.”
