It's a shot in the arm for the OPS camp. Panneerselvam has managed to rope in another old AIADMK leader as his battle with Sasikala enters its third day. E Madhusudhanan, an MGR loyalist and Presidium Chairman of the AIADMK declared his support for OPS at his residence.

In turn, OPS declared that Madhusudhanan will be the permanent General Secretary of the AIADMK.

Standing with the legislators and party men who support him, OPS addressed media persons outside his residence, welcoming Madhusudhanan to his camp. Madhusudhanan said that his conscience was telling him to join OPS, and he decided to follow through.

“When Amma passed away, they told me that my brother Madhusudhanan will be the party General Secretary while I will be the Chief Minister. Only for that reason, I agreed, but they went back on their word,” OPS claimed.

OPS took the opportunity to hit out at Sasikala once again, reading from the apology letter that Sasikala had written to Jayalalithaa in 2012, after an estrangement between the two of them. In the letter Sasikala had written that she did not desire a political posting or power, and that she only wanted to help Jayalalithaa.

“At that point, Amma had said that since Sasikala had written the letter, only Sasikala will be allowed to live in her house,” OPS said, pointing out that Sasikala’s family was now living at Veda Nilayam. “The people that Amma did not want around are now at Amma’s house, and they call us traitors,” OPS exclaimed.

“Madhusudhanan has helped the party grow, he was always loyal to MGR,” OPS said.

Just a few weeks back, Madhusudhanan was among those who had supported Sasikala in her bid to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Speaking to media persons at Jayalalithaa’s memorial, Madhusudhanan had said, “Sasikala is worthy of becoming the Chief Minister.”

But as he joined the OPS camp, Madhusudhanan expressed regret and claimed that he has surrendered to Panneerselvam to wash away his sins.

Madhusudhanan is one of the oldest members of AIADMK. Between 1991 and 1996, he was Textile Minister in the Jayalalithaa government. He was convicted and later acquitted in the free sari and dhoti scam. At one point, he was also the Propaganda Secretary of the party.

In 2010, Jayalalithaa had brought Madhusudhanan in as the Presidium Chairman of the AIADMK, and he has held the post ever since.
