Sandalwood star Darshan is reportedly set to star in the period drama, Kurukshethra, which will go on the floors in June.  The film’s test shoot happened at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad recently and Darshan reportedly took part in it.

According to reports, the star will be flying abroad for the shooting of his upcoming film Tarak and decided to allot time for the test shoot before his sojourn. During the photo shoot, discussions were also held with the costume designer to decide Darshan’s look for costumes to be prepared in time for shooting to start, said sources.

Kurukshethra, based on the Mahabharatha, is a period film being made on a lavish budget. The movie will be directed by veteran director Naganna. The film is being bankrolled by Munirathna, MLA and the President of the Producers’ Association.

Sources say that the makers of the film were in talks with Dr Shivrajkumar, Sudeep and Yash to play other important roles in the film, but they couldn’t accommodate the film for various reasons. Reports also have it that Ambarish, Jaggesh and Ravichandran have also been approached to play crucial roles in the film and that Jaggesh turned down the offer.

The makers of this historical film also have plans to release it in other languages and are in talks with stars from other film industries. However, the details about this are being kept under wraps.

Kurukshethra will start rolling from June 23 to coincide with its producer Munirathna’s birthday. The film will be shot majorly at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad and art director Kiran is working on extravagant sets for the film.
