A 15-year-old girl at Eloor committed suicide on Wednesday night after an altercation with her mother over the use of mobile phone for a long time.

The deceased is Safna, daughter of Sudheer and Saajitha of Koottungal House in Eloor, who had recently passed her class 10 examinations by securing 70% marks.

The girl’s mother Saajitha, a tailor, had scolded her for using mobile phone for a long time on Wednesday night. Following this, the girl went to her bedroom and locked herself up. When Saajitha was doing her tailoring work, she heard the sound of a chair falling inside Safna’s room. Though she rushed to her daughter’s room, she couldn’t get inside as it was locked.

The incident occurred at around 9.30pm.

The woman ran out to a neighbour, who rushed in and forced the door open. The girl was found hanging from the ceiling fan and an overturned chair was found in the room, The Times of India reports.

By the time, her mother along with neighbours rushed Safna to hospital, she had died. Her father Sudheer works in the Middle East.
