A 26-year-old naval cadet from Kerala was found dead at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, Kannur.

His death occurred at around 2.30am on Thursday after he reportedly jumped from the fourth floor of the building.

According to a press statement issued by the Naval Academy, the deceased is Suraj of Malappuram district.

He is the son of Ramana and was doing his first term course at the Indian Naval Academy.

"The cadet was found in an unconscious and unresponsive state on the floor of the Academic wing by a duty instructor at 5.30pm on Wednesday. He was immediately evacuated to Intensive Care Unit of Indian Naval Hospital Navjivani and administered IV Fluid resuscitation," the press statement said.

It also said that he was later shifted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital along with a medical specialist and other assistants.

"The cadet developed cardiac arrest two times at the Hospital. All efforts to revive him by the medical specialists failed and he was declared dead at 2.30am on Thursday," the statement said.

Manorama reports that he was earlier sacked from the Academy but he returned with a court order.

The family of the cadet has been informed about his death and Southern Naval Command has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

There are unconfirmed reports that his death is a case of suicide.

Meanwhile, Suraj’s family suspects foul play in his death and has alleged that he was mentally and physically harassed by the authorities at the INA.

"The relatives have alleged foul play and re-investigation has commenced", Payyannur Circle Inspector Azad Maruthapuzhayil told The News Minute.
