The Karnataka State Aids Prevention Society (KSAPS), which is under the state health ministry, has allegedly misused funds meant for condom distribution, says former BJP corporator NR Ramesh. At least Rs 500 crore has been misused, he says.

Armed with documents, the BJP city unit spokesperson alleged that the scam took place when Congress leader UT Khader was the health and family welfare minister.

“The chief minister and the health minister are president and vice president of this society respectively. Most of the scam happened when UT Khader was the Health Minister,” said Ramesh.

Ramesh has filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau against the chief minister, who is also the chairman of the society.

He alleged that KSAPS had promoted condoms of a private company as a part of its Condom Social Marketing Programme. The society distributed these condoms from private company to women in flesh trade, reported Deccan Herald.

KSAPS’s duty is to spread awareness about the AIDS, and to rehabilitate and counsel HIV victims.

He alleged that officials of KSAPS had not properly documented how funds obtained from the UNICEF, National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) and other bodies were used, reported DC.

“KSAPS did not reveal how much money was spent on these tests and treatment because all these details were bogus,” said Ramesh.

UT Khader, who is currently the food and supplies minister, refuted the allegations. “We never shy away from any enquiry. Let the probe happen. I say this confidently because I never indulge in such activities,” said Khader.
