After shooting for nearly a month in Mumbai, the makers of superstar Rajinikanth starrer Kaala will finally pack their bags and bid adieu to the city. A reliable source from the unit has informed us that the last day of shoot for the Mumbai schedule is Thursday. The next schedule of the film will happen in Chennai where they have erected a huge set of Dharavi slum. In the film being directed by Kabali fame Ranjith, Rajinikanth plays a slum-lord-turned-gangster. He will be seen mouthing lines in Tamil, Hindi as well as Marathi.

The film also stars Nana Patekar as the main antagonist. The Ab Tak Chhappan actor will be seen in the role of a ruthless, conniving politician. Also starring Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil, Pankaj Tripathi and Samuthirakani, the film will also be released in Hindi as most of the portions shot in Mumbai will feature Hindi and Marathi dialogues.

It’s with great difficulty that the makers managed to shoot the Mumbai schedule as the conditions were highly prone to leaks from the sets. There was also the challenge of mob control as audiences would turn up in hordes to catch a glimpse of Rajinikanth, according to the source.

Dhanush is bankrolling the project and there are rumours that he might play the younger version of his father-in-law in the film, which will shine the spotlight on the lives of oppressed Tamils in Mumbai. With the film’s shooting going on at a brisk pace, the makers are finding it extremely difficult to avoid leaks, especially pictures from the sets. The title track of Kaala, which has music by Santhosh Narayanan, also mysteriously surfaced online last month.
