Kannada film producer and wife of late actor Dr Rajkumar, Parvathamma Rajkumar, who was hospitalised a week ago is steadily recovering, doctors at Bengaluru’s MS Ramaiah Hospital said.

“Our mother was put on the ventilator yesterday (Friday) and she is doing better now. There are lots of rumours doing the rounds that she is critical and fighting death. This is not true. She will be taken off the ventilator tomorrow (Sunday) and only then can the doctors say for sure if she is faring well,” said Parvathamma’s son and Sandalwood star, Raghavendra Rajkumar.

According to Dr Naresh Shetty, the President of MS Ramaiah Hospital, the first 48 hours are crucial for a patient who has been put on the ventilator.

“Parvathamma Rajkumar’s health has improved since yesterday (Friday) but the first 48 hours are crucial and is it safe to assume that she is not out of danger until the ventilator is removed,” Dr Naresh Shetty told TNM.

Parvathamma is currently being treated for multiple organ complications. She was admitted to MS Ramaiah Hospital a week ago due to respiratory and kidney-related problems. She had recently recovered from breast cancer.

According to the chief physician, Dr Sanjay Kulkarni, her current condition is due to complication with the functioning of her lungs, kidneys and liver.

“She is alert and tries to speak to her sons and the nurses through gestures. Yesterday (Friday) she was gesturing to her son (Raghavendra Rajkumar) that she wanted to go home. This is a vast improvement compared to Thursday night when she was unconscious,” Dr Kulkarni added.

On Friday, doctors told media persons that her kidney functioning has shown improvement. “The serium creatinine count in the blood has reduced from 2.9 to 1.6 in the last 24 hours, which is a good sign. Parvathamma is still on dialysis since the urine output is not normal yet,” Dr Kulkarni had told media persons.
