BJP says MT Ramesh not guilty, wants action against AK Nazeer who leaked medical scam report

The BJP has put its strength behind State General Secretary MT Ramesh, calling him innocent in the medical college scam. But the party’s ire is on BJP Minority Morcha National Executive member AK Nazeer who leaked the internal enquiry report to the media.

The party’s core committee that met in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday said that MT Ramesh, whose name had propped up in a report filed by a two-member internal committee headed by K P Sreesan and A K Nazeer in May this year, was innocent. The committee had investigated a case of alleged bribe paid to RS Vinod, BJP convener of cooperation cell, for attaining recognition for a private medical college in the state.

R Shaji, chairman of S R Educational and Charitable Trust, who had paid a bribe of Rs 5.6 crore to RS Vinod had also told the committee that he had heard that MT Ramesh had previously helped a man from Palakkad to get Medical Council of India recognition for his college.

MT Ramesh however told the BJP Core Committee that someone within the party was plotting against him and had dragged his name into the controversy. Ramesh also said that he would quit the party if action was not taken against those people.

Speaking at a press meet after the core committee meeting, National Executive Committee member PS Sreedharan Pillai said:

"Only RS Vinod has a role in the scam, he has been expelled. The party has no role in it and will cooperate with investigation."

Meanwhile, the party will also take action against AK Nazeer for allegedly leaking the report. Many members demanded action against Nazeer for betraying the party’s interests and playing group politics.

A TV channel had telecast the committee report without masking the name of the sender, and according to BJP leaders, the mail had been sent by Nazeer to a hotel he owns.

The BJP had already sacked RS Vinod, a man known to be close to state President Kummanam Rajasekharan. Kummnanam, did not attend the press meet at the end of the Core Committee meeting.
