Amazon Prime was launched in India some months back and it is already one of the most visible products if one went by the TV ads. Now Amazon brings its Fire TV brand also here with the Fire TV Stick expected to launch in April 2017. Though Amazon also sells Fire TV streaming devices in a box form, it is the stick that is being brought into the Indian market first.

The company is already in competition with Roku and Google’s Chromecast in the US market and the introduction of Fire TV in India will create some flutter among the competition as well.

The information revealed so far indicates the Amazon Fire TV Stick could be sold through physical stores like Chroma and Reliance Digital, apart from its own website, amazon.in. The product may be made available through other retail outlets across the country as well. It is believed that the Fire TV box will also be eventually launched. The Amazon Fire TV stick will be priced at Rs 1,999 for Amazon Prime members and at Rs 3,999 for everyone else.

Technologically, Amazon Fire TV operates on the Android OS with a user interface (UI) of Amazon’s own riding over it. With Amazon Prime Video already available, the customers can expect to get content from Netflix, YouTube and from other sources. The Amazon Fire TV Stick has, in its heart, a quad-core processor with 1GB RAM. The other feature that would excite the users is Alexa, the voice command feature.

It has to be clarified that by just fixing the Fire TV Stick, you cannot watch any of the normal television channels that you are now getting through your DTH or set-up box connections. It is understood that some kind of a tie-up with local operators may be on the anvil so that you have the whole umbrella of entertainment.
