In another case similar to Swathi’s murder, a 23-year-old girl was killed by her estranged lover at a bus stop in Chennai on Thursday evening, reported The New Indian Express.

On Thursday, A Soniya, (23), was waiting for a bus at Perungalathur bus terminal at 6:30 am when S Prashant came and spoke to her. After an argument, he took out a penknife and slit her throat.

The girl was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. However, the boy surrendered at the Peekingkaranal police station.

An investigating officer told The New Indian Express that Prashant and Soniya were in a relationship for over six years and both their parents and neighbours knew about this. They had a fight recently and Soniya wanted to leave him. She began ignoring Prashant after that.

They both lived in the same locality in Nedungundram. Police said that Prashant was trying to convince her for the last couple of months but she continued avoiding him and he saw her with another man on a bike in Tambaram on Thursday.

The police officer said the man had picked Soniya from her office and left her at the Tambaram bus stop, from where she boarded a bus and reached Perangalathur.

Prashant followed the bus and began arguing with her at the bus stop. In a fit of rage, he slit her throat.

Soniya was working in a private dairy in Tambaram and the man was working as a mechanic in a private car company in Urapakkam.

The Peekingkarani police station registered a case against him and investigation is in progress.

On October 28, a 24-year-old girl, Sivaranjani, was attacked by a man, whom she had rejected, at Koyambedu bus terminus.
